In order to support the achievement of Binus University in terms of world recognition, the School of Computer Science participated ini several national and international competitions in the programming, mathematics, and statistics field, which are:
1. APICTA (The Asia Pasific ICT Awards)
The Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) is an international awards program which aims to increase ICT awareness in the community and assist in bridging the digital divide. By providing networking and product benchmarking opportunities to ICT innovators and entrepreneurs in the region, the program is designed to stimulate ICT innovation and creativity, promote economic and trade relations, facilitate technology transfer, and offer business matching opportunities via exposure to venture capitalists and investors.
Participants of the awards program comprise members of the APICTA Alliance. They are guided by the Framework of Cooperation identifying how member-economies can work together in support of the Awards Program as well as other programs that foster development and growth of the ICT industry in the region. APICTA’s 16 member-economies include Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
2. INAICTA (Indonesia Information and Communication Technology Award)
Indonesia Information and Communication Technology Award (INAICTA) is a grand event held nationwide community of information and communication technologies in Indonesia, with the full support of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, which aims to provide an appreciation of the finest works in the field of telematics creation of the nation. INAICTA different from the other similar competitions. INAICTA is the culmination of all kinds of creative works contest the activities of information and communication technologies in Indonesia.
Background INAICTA convocation is to encourage and explore the potential and creativity of the nation in ICT so as to produce ICT products and services quality, competitive market and selling into the domestic, regional and international levels. Because it is still a lack of attention and appreciation of works of information and communication technology, high quality local INAICTA race with this event, it is expected the works of the creativity of local ICT activists are able to host in their own country, as well as opportunities for progress in the regional and international. Through a series of events expected INAICTA a significant exposure to the best works of the nation is to be known by potential industrial users who need it.
INAICTA will involve almost all the parties related to the field of information and communication technologies in Indonesia. First, of course, the participants in the race, which comes from the designer, manufacturer, and developer products information and communication technologies in the homeland. Second, is the jury who judged competent in their field and come from a number of associations and community information and communication technologies in the ground water as a representative of the industry, whose job is to choose the best works that deserve the award. Third, the stakeholders in ICT so that fully supports the implementation of these activities well.
3. ACM ICPC
The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is a multitier, team-based, programming competition operating under the auspices of ACM and headquartered at Baylor University. The contest involves a global network of universities hosting regional competitions that advance teams to the ACM-ICPC World Finals. Participation has grown to several tens of thousands of the finest students and faculty in computing disciplines at almost 2,000 universities from over 80 countries on six continents. The contest fosters creativity, teamwork, and innovation in building new software programs, and enables students to test their ability to perform under pressure. Quite simply, it is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world.
4. Imagine Cup
The Microsoft Imagine Cup is the world’s premier student technology competition. In ten years, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a truly global competition focused on finding solutions to real-world problems. Since 2003, over 1.4 million students have participated in the Imagine Cup with 358,000 students representing 183 countries and regions registering for the Imagine Cup 2011 competition.
Gemastik or performances of the National Student Information andCommunications Technology in 2011, is a program of the Directorate Penilitianand Community Service (DP2M) Higher Education, in an effort to improve thequality of the students so that they can take the role as change agents in promotingICT and their utilization in Indonesia.
Gemastik is a performance student activities graduate and diploma levels of all universities in Indonesia in the field of ICT (Information and CommunicationTechnology).
