What remains is evidence, scattered across disks, log files, and memory, waiting for someone who knows how to read it. Computer Forensics teaches students to become that person, reconstructing what happened, when it happened, and who was behind it, with the rigor that holds up not just technically but legally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">The course establishes the fundamentals first, covering key technical concepts along with the legal and ethical considerations that separate a sound investigation from an inadmissible one. Students then learn proper data acquisition, the critical first step where careless handling can destroy the very evidence they came to collect. From there, they work through disk and file system analysis and examine artifacts across Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X, discovering that every operating system keeps its own record of what users and programs have done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">Investigations rarely stop at the machine itself, so students also explore internet artifacts and file and archive analysis, tracing activity that reaches beyond the local system. The course then brings everything together through timeline analysis and correlation of artifacts, turning scattered fragments into a coherent narrative of an incident.
