Knowledge Sharing School of Computer Science bersama Kumoh National Institute of Technology

Continuing its dedication to enriching academic perspectives, the School of Computer Science at BINUS University held another Knowledge Sharing for Lecturer session on Monday, June 30th, 2025. This regular event serves as a platform for faculty members to gain insights into current research trends and innovations from global experts.

In this session, we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Kim Jihyung, Assistant Professor at the Kumoh National Institute of Technology, South Korea. Prof. Kim delivered an insightful presentation on “AI and Immersive Technology (AR/VR/MR),” focusing on how these technologies are being implemented across various sectors in Korea.

One of the key highlights from the session was his discussion on a research project conducted in 2022, titled “Mixed Reality-Based Outdoor Training System to Improve Football Player Performance,” developed in collaboration with the Korean Football Association. The project introduced an MR-based training system built using Unity3D and the Mixed Reality Toolkit (MRTK), specifically designed for Microsoft HoloLens 2. This immersive system allows users — in this case, football players — to engage in situational training unconstrained by physical limitations of space and time.

The system enables seamless switching between scenarios and supports iterative analysis and prediction, aiming to help players improve their situational awareness and decision-making on the field. Prof. Kim emphasized how immersive technology, when combined with AI and digital twin models, can bring measurable improvements in performance and open new possibilities in sports technology.

His session offered practical insights into how immersive technologies can be leveraged not just in entertainment, but also in education, training, and real-world problem-solving — sparking new ideas among attendees about future applications and research directions.
