Seminar Internasional: Exploring Cloud Databases and Text Classification
International Seminars: Exploring Cloud Databases and Text Classification
On April 29–30, 2025, School of Computer Science BINUS University held two back-to-back international seminars that addressed key advancements in database systems and natural language processing. Both sessions featured Ts. Dr. Anbuselvan Sangodiah from Taylor’s University, Malaysia, as the speaker.
The first seminar, “Relational and Non-Relational Databases in Cloud Platform,” was held virtually via Zoom and moderated by Said Achmad, S.Kom., M.Kom. a lecturer at BINUS University. The session attracted participants from across departments, especially those interested in cloud computing, database technology, and data management.
Dr. Anbuselvan delivered a detailed overview of both relational and non-relational database architectures, highlighting their respective advantages and use cases within cloud-based environments. The talk emphasized the structured integrity of relational databases and the scalability and flexibility of NoSQL systems when handling unstructured or semi-structured data. The session also featured practical demonstrations using Azure Cosmos DB, introducing students to real-world tools widely used in enterprise cloud infrastructure.
The second seminar, titled “Text Classification from Traditional to Deep Learning Models,” was held on the following day and moderated by Rilo Chandra Pradana, S.Si., M.Kom. a lecturer at BINUS University. This session brought together students and faculty members keen on exploring the latest in natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning.
Dr. Anbuselvan walked participants through the evolution of text classification—from traditional machine learning approaches such as Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Decision Trees, to advanced deep learning models including LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) and CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks). The seminar also explored word representation techniques, comparing bag-of-words models with modern embeddings like Word2Vec and GloVe. Participants gained insight into how these models capture semantic meaning and context within textual data, enabling more accurate classification.
Both seminars were highly interactive, providing students not only with theoretical foundations but also exposure to practical applications and current industry practices. These events reflect BINUS University’s ongoing commitment to international academic collaboration and advancing student expertise in cutting-edge technology.
