ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF DATABASE FOR WEB-BASED LEARNING SYSTEM AT SMART AND FAST LEARNING CENTER

The application of information technology plays an important role in many aspects in our daily lives these days. Advancement of information technology opens a lot of possibilities to optimize work efficiency, increase productivity, and establish new ways of thinking.
Rapid advancement of information technology has a great impact as well in education practices. All of the technological advancements made in the field of education have enabled students and teachers to access extensive stores of information efficiently, and supported many educational institutions to provide learning process in a more excellent manner. Use of information technology has greatly facilitated the process of learning and teaching both inside and outside the formal school.
Another advantage of the use of information technology is allowing for a better and safer data control. Therefore, many educational institutions have implemented a database system to increase the performance of the learning process and improve data processing.
Data is an individual facts, statistics, or items of information used for reference or analysis to generate a decision that will be useful in the future growth of the organization. Data is collected and stored to a database system so that it can be managed easily and can be accessed quickly.
Smart and Fast Learning Center was established in 2011, with the vision “Escalating young generations’ competencies through education”. Smart and Fast Learning Center is committed to give high quality cognitive learning to students, with expectations that every student can develop a logical and systematic mindset, as a preparation for them to succeed in higher education levels, have a great future career, and give positive impacts to public.
Since its inception, Smart and Fast Learning Center has not been applying any computerized system to organize and control its operations. All processes of learning and data management, for example recording students and teachers personal data, creating learning materials, giving out exercises, conducting exams, and checking the exam results are done manually using books and papers, which lead to difficulties in organizing and controlling the data as well as inability to present an effective learning process.
The limitation of the current manual system raises some problems, such as difficulties in giving out exercises and conducting exams as the materials need to be collected and copied from various textbooks, more time needed to check the exam results manually, difficulties in monitoring student progress, obscurities in forming study groups when students want to take additional courses, and difficulties in managing and storing the existing data.
In line with the organization growth and development, data and processes that must be handled are also increasing. Because of this situation, Smart and Fast Learning Center then decided to implement a new computerized system to support its operations. The new system for Smart and Fast Learning Center will be developed using web based technology as well, to provide easiness and efficiency for users.
Thus, the author conducts this thesis to analyze, design, and develop a database to support web based learning system, titled “ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF DATABASE FOR WEB-BASED LEARNING SYSTEM AT SMART AND FAST LEARNING CENTER”.
