The Art of Darksiders
Darksiders is an action role-playing hack and slash video game, the first installment from the Darksiders series. This game was developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ, and was released on 5 January 2010.
Plot
The plot is about two Kingdoms, Heaven and Hell. Both sides wages war, with neither sides are winning. Later on, a group named “Charred Council” came to take neither sides but to maintain balance. The group have four main warrior called ‘The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’, they intervene and applied their laws upon both Kingdom. Later, another Kingdom led by humanity emerges and led the council to make truce between Heaven and Hell. The seven seal, which were meant to be broken when Kingdom of Man ready for war.
In the present day, a horsemen of the apocalypse named ‘War’, fall down to earth along with demons and angels to starts the war. But only one of the Horsemen were to arrive, and the seventh seal haven’t broken. After this, War was sent back again by the council after his death fighting a Demon and blamed for destroying the balance. ‘War’ feign innocence and must find the culprit and clear his name. The council gave him a second chance and let ‘War’ back on earth to find the culprit.
Settings
Darksiders took place on Earth after a century have passed since Demon and Angels wages war.
Gameplay
At the start you play as ‘War’, the game only available on Singleplayer. The game is a semi-open world type in third-person perspective where most likely roam around but limited location until some parts of the place unlocked after gathering key items and skills. The game focuses on melee combat, at start ‘War’ only have a sword as weapon, but later on will achieve various weapons.
The game also have health meter, where when depleted, the game over and will restart from the checkpoint. Not only melee, ‘War’ also able to fight with magic attacks named Wrath powers or WP. Wrath are like magic or skills in other games, they can be offensive or defensive. It can be activated as long as Wrath meter are present.
The game also sometimes give a prompt to do finishing moves after enemies takes huge damage to their health. The game also features bosses on each locations of separate levels, where you have to defeat to progress to get access to the next locations. Some parts of the game also give small puzzle for the player to solve.
There is also a Chaos Meter where will fill up for every hit towards an enemy. If full, ‘War’ can transform into a giant fiery beast. ‘War’ damage will increase and he’s invincible for the short period of time. It is the most powerful form of the Horsemen.
When defeating an enemy, they will release three souls. Green souls to replenish HP, Yellow souls to replenish WP, and Blue souls to gain currencies. Blue souls can be used to spend on a demon merchant named Vulgrim, he sells weapons, upgrades, and items.
Overall
The game is strictly for Singleplayer only, and focused on action story-based. The game is heavily on fantasy and post-apocalyptic universe. There are no horror on this game and basically for action, puzzle solving, and skills. This game is really enjoyable for Singleplayer and seeking for challenging gameplay.
