The purpose of this research is to develop an applicationfor android smartphone as a tool for translating Japanese to Indonesian directly (without typing the text). The research method that we are used, consists of two main parts, those are analysis and design method. Analysis was done by doing literature study, survey, andquestionnaire. Design method was done by using waterfall model. The result of our research is an Android application to translate Japanese to Indonesian using optical character recognition.The conclusion from our research is the application that we develop can assist user in translating Japanese to Indonesian.
